No More Playing Nice – CA Water Regulators Will Name, Shame, Fine, Even Ration Water-Wasters

Water districts that don’t take steps to conserve face $10,000-a-day fines if they don’t adopt new water restrictions or change rates as demanded by the state. The excuses cities have given for pitiful conservation, including hot weather and earlier cutbacks, are no longer a free pass.

Retired and living with my partner, dog and a cat colony on the slope of Mauna Loa. Would rather be living in Palm Springs, California and hope to return there some day. Meanwhile enjoy swimming, walking/hiking and bicycling, trying to maintain my home and property despite really wanting to burn it to the ground. And a little photography. Interested in LGBTQI, environmental and social justice issues.

  1. It’s long past time that California got serious about curbing water consumption. Unfortunately, they haven’t gone far enough. The aquifer under the central valley is dropping something like 10 feet per year because it is totally unregulated – meaning almond farmers and fracking operations alike can take as much as they like until nothing remains. Grrrr!

    • I read recently that not only is it sinking but also collapsing which will limit future replenishment. They are pulling out water that fell during the last ice age.
