Retired and living with my partner, dog and a cat colony on the slope of Mauna Loa. Would rather be living in Palm Springs, California and hope to return there some day. Meanwhile enjoy swimming, walking/hiking and bicycling, trying to maintain my home and property despite really wanting to burn it to the ground. And a little photography. Interested in LGBTQI, environmental and social justice issues.

  1. I honor and respect these brave protestors, but I am sad at the prospect of how they will be made to pay for their action.

  2. I read – somewhere – that some of them had been released from prison. Yes, it is sad at the prospect of how they will be made to pay for their actions. Dissent in Iran is dealt with harshly. The Mullahs came down very hard on the Green Revolution some years ago. Most of Iran’s population is young, under 35-40. They are tired of the Mullahs’ dictatorship. Their parent’s generation, some of whom I went to school with, wanted to free themselves from the tyranny of the Shah. But they got another tyrant which is often the case with revolution. Egypt being the latest example in a long history of these things. Egypt did just hold an election of sorts so maybe there is hope. As awful as things can get in the US sometimes at least it is not as bad as some of these countries. But then again, there are better democracies out there also. Unfortunately, I think we are now in a mostly Plutocratic form of government.

    • I don’t like being ruled by the super-rich 0.1%, but I do prefer that to living in a theocracy. To my knowledge, the Scandinavian countries have the happiest people and the most progressive society, but I’m not sure I could take those frigid winters.

      • The frigid winters for me would be like being under house arrest. Yes, these theocracies are often the most draconian and the worst. The super rich here in the US do allow us a lot of freedoms. And if you are talented and lucky you do get a chance to join them. Such as the likes of Bill Gates, Oprah and others.
