Retired and living with my partner, dog and a cat colony on the slope of Mauna Loa. Would rather be living in Palm Springs, California and hope to return there some day. Meanwhile enjoy swimming, walking/hiking and bicycling, trying to maintain my home and property despite really wanting to burn it to the ground. And a little photography. Interested in LGBTQI, environmental and social justice issues.

  1. This was an excellent episode of Cosmos. I remember when unleaded fuel was introduced. And the push to rid housing of leaded paint. To think that we lived in that toxic soup for so long. As foolishly as the ancient Romans did. And now we live in denial over radiation from Fukushima and other nuclear installations. Not to mention what all the CO2 that has been released by relentlessly burning fossil fuels is doing to the biosphere.

  2. And then there is all the double-whammy of fracking: polluting aquifers and causing earthquakes in order to sell even more fossil fuels.

  3. Corporations fund science denial and buy politicians. Sounds like a win-win for the oligarchs and a lose-lose for the 99.9%

  4. The oligarchs remind me of those aliens Stephen Hawking talks about. Paraphrasing here…”They will most likely rape the planet of its resources and then move on to the next one.”

  5. I saw that TV special also…it was excellent. I loved it when he said (paraphrasing again,) that we probably should not advertise our location as an alien encounter would most likely be short and brutal. I instantly thought of Voyager out there with the precise directions to Earth aboard it.
